The beauty and musical tension seem to be evoked out of the very logical combination of tightly rehearsed pieces and free improvisation. 4Walls create their own intriguing world of noises and melodies, and at the same time they successfully manage a balance between different dynamic musical possibilities. You may hear
pieces referring to heavy punk or Schoenbergian atonalism. Or they guide you into the world of a popular folksong.
Wonderful music balancing between melancholic or dark chords against fast and humorous pieces or tiny minuscule sounds against enormous fragments of brutal noise. The music is very much part of a contemporary European culture reflecting many environments and histories from 4 people’s lives.
In the different compositions they are using poets and writers as diverse as Paul Haines, Ho Chi Minh, ee cummings, John Henry Mackay and Adrian Mitchell.
